Blood Angels Changes – Confirmed

I got a sneak peak at the new Blood Angels codex last night – everything which had been reported the other day was pretty much completely accurate. Assault Squads are indeed Fast Attack instead of Troops, the HQ selection is crowded, Dante is a fixed, and no new toys.

One clarification I did get was that Sanguinary Priests are only one per slot. That is disappointing, but not the end of the world I guess. I’m generally more upbeat about the codex now than I was when I first found out about the changes. It’s going to be a challenge to learn a different style of play, but that’s half the fun of Warhammer 40,000! We’re going to have to be careful about choosing our lists. There’s no real “auto-include” units in any slot.

The relic jump pack looks great: enemy units firing at your own deep-striking unit, using the Interceptor special rule, can only fire snapshots – which means no blast or template weapons, in addition to the ballistic skill penalty.

I was given one caveat to keep in mind about the codex: the upcoming Shield of Baal: Exterminatus campaign book contains a whole pile of Blood Angels Formations and Dataslates, so it might be worth holding off making wholesale army changes until that book arrives, next week.
